Hi guys, its Tim here from jwtechparts bringing you another review.
The item we are looking at today is the WD TV Live Plus media player. I have truly been a fan of hard drive media players since there initial release. however, they always had a disappointing feature. whether it was that the menu was poorly organized, the control didn't work properly or playback was pathetic, I had always been interested in the technology. Thats why when a big name brand such as WD decided to release one I knew there was a future in these device.
The WD TV Live Plus features a wide range of playable codecs and subtitle languages (assuming included with the file) with up to 1080p HD output. Network capability with online functions (eg youtube, netflix, facebook). Now I recall the device being capable of loading HD youtube videos online however I think that feature was excluded later on for unknown reasons.
As you can see there is not a whole lot of options at the back as far as compatibility purposes go, however if you want 1080p playback its best to use HDMI anyway.
The playback on this device is seemless with fantastic audio playback as well.
If you happen to have an HDTV and a spare $150 hanging around i would definitely reccomend the WD TV Live Plus.
If you have another brand or model of media player please leave a comment, otherwise just a nice word.
Bye.
the question is... can you put linux on it?!
ReplyDeleteInteresting. well priced too.
ReplyDeleteI've heard about this. It looks good. If I wasn't rocking an external hard drive, I'd get one.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of doing this or Netflix on my Xbox and just knocking out the cable bill haha.
ReplyDeleteIs this used for network storage and streaming of media? I currently use my xbox and NAS to play films on my HDTV but it can be somewhat laggy at times.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm sexyy, I'd like to have that :3
ReplyDeleteLooks great, I don't think it can compare to a private server though.

ReplyDeletewouldnt be surprised if this takes netflix out of the cash profits.. single hand the fact that its 1080P its plush. makes it another powerful machine for the consumer to enjoy privately.
