A look at sandy bridge performance

Hi guys, Tim here again with a quick update on the sandy bridge architecture and the second generation i5/i7 core processors.

These new release cores are already creating a lot of hype as many of us had been eagerly awaiting their release.

SB (Sandy Bridge) Core i5 and i7 based processors will have four physical (execution) CPU cores each capable of one hyper-thread (making 4 physical cores and 8 logical cores hyper-threaded), they include integrated graphics and a memory controller. Like other 1st generation Nehalem derivatives, SB will feature Intel Turbo Boost which has been further developed and is now at revision 2.0.

I have gone to the effort of finding another graph showing the intense improvements of these new processors also from guru3d.com

As you can see the 2nd generation i5 and i7 CPU hold considerable advantages over the previous generation almost doubling the 3dmark score of my i7 920. These CPUs are definitely a feature you should look for in your next purchase.

Please leave comments about any more information or your experience with these products or just a nice word.

  13. Sandy bridge is a great increase in processing capability. I wonder how much faster things will get with smaller manufacturing processes. Have you seen the IBM Jeopardy special with Watson?
